Easy 5 After work
Wednesday, January 31, 2007, 07:00 AM
Did 30 minutes of Ct training at work. Trying to do some strength training as recommended by Owen Anderson, Running Research Physiologist. This supposedly helps with endurance in the marathon in final miles. Ct training is nothing really too tough mostly body weight exercises.

Ran after night shift, 5 miles at seabourne park. Trail is very muddy. Ran about 8:05 pace and struggling to keep this pace. Glad it's only a easy run. Used my nimbus.

Semi Long Run
Monday, January 29, 2007, 05:03 PM
Did 18 miles today. Today was my day off (from work) so good opportunity to do a long run. Threw in 4.5 miles at marathon pace at around mile 8. This was really tuff to do and keep the pace.Took it home easy after this. Exhausted for the rest of the day. Used my nimbus running shoes. Total time was 2:16.

Numbers for last week:
(Week starts Monday and ends Sunday)
Run: 43 miles
Swim: 1800 yds or 38 min
Bike: 12 miles or 35 minutes

Track workout - 8 miles
Saturday, January 27, 2007, 09:04 PM
Good workout tonight. Went to Terry HS track. Got there at 7:40 pm. Had the whole track to myself for the first 40 minutes until a couple of walkers showed up. While I was warming up, I started thinking about all the cars driving by and people in their nice warm houses on a Saturday evening watching TV, eating pizza, drinking a beer or two and then there's me - here at the track - freezing my butt off and hurting from the 800s that come every 2 minutes. Just the price we dedicated runners and triathletes pay to perform better and try to get to the next level. All for what, a medal or a plaque (and sometimes nothing) which we have to pay for in the form of race entry fees. What motivates us to do this? And it definitely requires a lot of dedication. For me it's a PR marathon, that I am determined to get in Austin next month. My wife has been reading Joel Olstein's Book and he says that if you envision it, IT WILL HAPPEN. Well I envision it and I will get my PR marathon.

I warmed up with 2.5 miles then did 6x800s at 2:52 pace. Cool down was a short 1 mile only - wanted to get home to eat pizza and have a beer (which turned out to be a glass of milk). But at least I was warm now and with my family.

Easy 12 today
Friday, January 26, 2007, 09:16 PM
On the bike that is. I was going to run but I've been getting this tingling pain in my outer side of my left calf. So I opted to use my bike trainer. Did 35 minutes on the bike with about 15 min of hard spinning. The only way to get throught these "tough" workouts is to listen to 94.5 - The Buzz (Houston's Alternative Rock station). If it weren't for Breaking Benjamin, Evans Blue, Seether and others I wouldn't be able to go as hard as I like.

10 miles easy.
Thursday, January 25, 2007, 07:52 PM
I was almost tempted to go hard today, but I held back and did a easy 10 miler. I threw in a 800 at 3 min pace around mile 3, the first of what was to be 6-8, but I resisted the temptation to follow thur after I got a little tingly pain on my left lower calf. ran about a 7:35-40 pace.

It's really tuff to get all your quality workouts in when working a rotating shift. My hard days pretty much have to be on my days off since I really don't have much time to train too long on work days. Situations like these make you want to attempt two hard days back to back. And this is a no-no.

Used my Nimbus running shoes again today.:)

More Nasty Weather - Went to the Y
Wednesday, January 24, 2007, 04:40 PM
It rained ALL DAY today. Went to the Y kind of late morning (10 am). Did 1800 yards in the pool (about 38 min). Swim felt really great. Water felt good. Water temp was perfect. Had the whole pool to myself. What more can you ask for. Felt so good that I did 10 miles on the treadmill. I have never done more than 6 miles on a treadmill before. Treadmills were very good professional quality. Did 3 miles warm up at 8 min pace, then did 5 miles at marathon pace (6:31-ish) and 2 miles c/d. Decided to use my DS trainers today. good workout today. Also did about 15 minutes of Ab work after. Total trng time - 2 hrs.

Easy day
Tuesday, January 23, 2007, 04:32 PM
Worked my last night of night shift. Did a easy 5 miler at Seabourne park. Weather was nasty again. Heavy drizzle started around mile 2. Normally would stop and call it quits, but this time I was determined to do my 5 miles. Used my Nimbus running shoes.

10 miler today/ Goals
Monday, January 22, 2007, 05:30 PM
My current plan and goal is to get a PR marathon time at Austin on 2/18. After Austin I will start with my ironman training in whick I will incorporate more swims and bikes.

Had a good quality workout today. Ran at Seabourne park after night shift. Trail is pretty nasty with lots of standing water. Warmed up with 5 miles at easy pace (7:40ish), then ran 3 miles at Marathon pace (approx 6:33). Cooldown with 2 miles. Total time: 1:16. Felt good. Calves kind of sore. Used my nimbus running shoes.

Too tired to Run/Bike/Swim
Sunday, January 21, 2007, 04:33 PM
Got off my second night from working night shift and I was just too sleepy and tired to run. 2nd night is usually the worst. Had plans on doing about 10 miles, but instead I dreamt about running as I lay fast asleep. I did do 30 minutes of circuit training at work. Also worked a little on my core muscles.

6 miles after night shift
Saturday, January 20, 2007, 05:24 PM
Ran 6 miles this morning after taking a day off yesterday. Ran after working night shift. Sleepy and tired after night shift but running definitely wakes you up and so does the nice cold windy conditions during my morning run. Ran at Seabourne Park in rosenberg. Trail was had a lot of standing water but fair enough to run. I probably did 7:50 miles. I have never actually measured the distance of one loop on this trail, but I have conservatively called it one mile, when in actuality it's probably a little more. Used my Nimbus running shoes. These shoes are starting to get up there in miles, but they still feel good and cushy.
