Good workout tonight. Went to Terry HS track. Got there at 7:40 pm. Had the whole track to myself for the first 40 minutes until a couple of walkers showed up. While I was warming up, I started thinking about all the cars driving by and people in their nice warm houses on a Saturday evening watching TV, eating pizza, drinking a beer or two and then there's me - here at the track - freezing my butt off and hurting from the 800s that come every 2 minutes. Just the price we dedicated runners and triathletes pay to perform better and try to get to the next level. All for what, a medal or a plaque (and sometimes nothing) which we have to pay for in the form of race entry fees. What motivates us to do this? And it definitely requires a lot of dedication. For me it's a PR marathon, that I am determined to get in Austin next month. My wife has been reading Joel Olstein's Book and he says that if you envision it, IT WILL HAPPEN. Well I envision it and I will get my PR marathon.
I warmed up with 2.5 miles then did 6x800s at 2:52 pace. Cool down was a short 1 mile only - wanted to get home to eat pizza and have a beer (which turned out to be a glass of milk). But at least I was warm now and with my family.
