11 mile run

Ran 11 miles in the morning. Wanted to run more but had appt to get car serviced and was running short on time. good pace for run, 7:43 consistent pace throughout the run. Used my MP3 player for motivation because I have been needed some lately. getting tired of these long hard workouts in the hot sun. I almost wish the Ironman was next week so I could get this over with. Total time 85 min today. This week is starting to turnout like a low mileage week (bike and run).Used my Asics 2120s.

Another day off to do yard work

I know yard work is not considered a workout, but you just can't help but notice how much of your muscles you use to push the lawn mower thru the thick grass. it's definitely a cardio strength training all mixed up into one. Grass was extra long because of all the rain. I finish hot and sweaty just like a workout, maybe more. It's not going down as a workout but it should. Spent about 2 hours - mowing, edging and blowing.

Indoor workout due to heavy rain

Thundering and lightning and raining out. Went to the Y to use the bike, but the A/C was out. I could only take 10 minutes on the bike since it was so hot. Gave up on the bike and ran 7 miles on the treadmill at 7:30 pace. It was still hot and finished drenched but at least I had a slight breezed from a oscillating fan on the wall. Used my MP3 player to get my mind off the heat. Good workout for rainy day. Wish the workout could have been longer. Used my 2120 shoes. TT= 103 min.

Swim/bike

Took a day off yesterday.
Tuesday did about 40 minutes of core muscle work. Abs, back and some shoulder.

After work, went to Y and planned on swimming 3000 yds or more. Only swam 2400. Pool was packed. Shared a lane with another swimmer which was OK. But then ran into a kid (our heads bopped) when she and her friend were horsing around racing on the same lane that me and the other swimmer were on. I guess they didn't know what the lane ropes are for. I finally got fed up and went to the track to go run. Did 4 miles at Lamar HS track. 7:00, 6:44, 6:56, 7:16. Felt good. Very humid and hot. Used my Asics 2120s.
Total time = 83 minutes (not counting the 40 min for core muscle work)

My First Century Ride

It was a long ride - Whew! Left the house around 7 am. Went thru Fulshear, Simonton, Brookshire, to Waller then turned around and came back. 3 stops along the way. One to pee in Brookshire, 1 for a flat on the way back around mile 70 and one stop at Foster to get some Gatorade. Not a bad ride. Avg'd 19.1 mph. Better than last time. Back was a little sore but seems to get better after ~75 miles. Biked by myself again. I can slowdown, go fast, stretch, fix a flat without having to wait on someone else or have someone waiting on me. TT=5:30 minuts.

COMBAT triathlon today

Felt good to compete again. This is my first tri of the season. COMBAT also happens to be the first triathlon I did back in 2002. Did very well. Placed 1st in my age group and 5th o'all. Beat my best time by >1 min. 1:04:09. Swim was good. Bike was OK - could have been better. Run was great. Overall it was a good training triathlon for CDA Ironman. With my warmup, TT=75 minutes.

Taking a day off

Didn't work today so I had plenty of opportunity to do something, but I didn't. Instead just hung around the house watched a couple movies. Ate ice cream. I also figured since I had a sprint tri tomorrow, I would try to be somewhat fresh and to do my best.

8 mile run after work

Stopped at Seabourne park on my way home and ran 8 miles. Avg'd 7:20 miles. Used my Asics 2120s. Felt good. Total Time: 70 minutes.

Bike/run brick

12 mile bike reading rd, Hwy 762 to crabb river rd. Strong head wind on the way out. I thought I would avg much higher than I did. Avg'd 22.0 mph (32 minutes), transitioned about 3 minutes, then did a 6 mile run. 1st mile was in 7:14, Last mile 7:50. Legs feel good. Breathing kind of hard first couple of miles but gets better the more I run. Used my Asics 2120s. TT= 75 minutes.

Also, did my Abs/back workout at work.

3300 yd swim/ Race Ready?

Swim at Y. 3300 yds. Felt good during swim. Workin on form. Averaged about 6:15 for my 300s. Had to share a lane initially. Total time 1 hr 15 min. Took a day off yesterday. After the long bike and hard weekend, I deserved a day off. Total training time for last week was 14.8 hours. One of my toughest weeks so far. I am getting very anxious while time is getting shorter and shorter till Ironman day. I feel ready now and psyched up for it. I know I will finish. The bike will be the toughest challenge. I would have imagined I would be saying that about the swim given my lack of swimming background. But I feel pretty confident about the swim. I think I may start concentrating on my bike more during the next couple of weeks.
